Rail transit, subway, light rail, the difference between the three

Sep 06, 2022|

Rail and light rail are two systems of rail transit. Rail platen manufacturers are included in the major types of rail transit. In one sentence, the scope of rail transit is larger than that of subway and light rail. So what's the difference between subway and light rail?

Some people say that the underground is the subway, and the elevated is the light rail; some people say that the light rail is the light rail, and the subway is the heavy rail; neither of these statements is correct. First of all, many subway lines are elevated, and many light rail lines are underground. Secondly, the track width and weight of the subway and light rail are the same, and there is no difference.

The "light" of the light rail refers to the light load, and the difference from the subway lies in the different models selected. Under the premise of distinguishing between light rail and subway, modern urban rail transit trains can be divided into three types: A, B, and C, corresponding to train widths of 3 meters, 2.8 meters, and 2.6 meters, respectively. All rail transit routes using A-type or B-type trains are called subways; those using C-type trains are called light rails. These three models are difficult to distinguish from the appearance, and the intuitive difference is the width of the cabin.
